Tim Williamson has recently integrated his knowledge-first approach to epistemology with his intellectualism about knowledge-how. Filling in details from Stanley and Williamson’s original statement of intellectualism (2001), the integrated picture turns out to yield an interesting species of modal knowledge: knowledge of the agent’s own abilities. My aim will be to better understand this modal knowledge within the scope of both Williamson’s knowledge-first approach to epistemology and his anti-exceptionalist epistemology of modality.
