Among the very many scholarly contributions to philosophy of science, in his 2008 book Scientific Representation: Paradoxes of Perspective Bas van Fraassen has articulated and defended the perspectival nature of scientific representation. In what sense is scientific representation perspectival? And what are the implications for the debate on realism in science? In this talk, I build on van Fraassen’s view and explore different ways in which scientific representation can be perspectival. I unpack some serendipitous metaphysical consequences of this move for ongoing debates on realism in science.
