Neuropsychological Foundation of Phenomenology:
Is It Possible?

I focus on Dagfinn Follesdal's clear exposition of the three central phenomological concepts of Husserl: noema, noesis and hyle. Starting from the position that intentionality is itself an empirical psychological concept, I examine the problems of giving an empirical account of the three concepts mentioned. The analysis developed also considers the nature of perception, memory and consciousness, with skepticism about the central role of consciousness in our mental activities.
